When you start your own business of any kind, you’ll be embarking on a journey like no other. In our previous post: Things You Should Know Before Starting A Business, we stated that starting your business is definitely NOT for everyone and we stayed why.
It can be exciting and wonderful to start your own business, but there are definitely some hardships that come with it. So let’s talk about what those are so you can get an even more clear picture about what you may be getting yourself into!
Pro: You’re your own boss. Nobody can tell us what to do as bosses. We decide how to move forward and what to move forward with. That amount of freedom is pretty awesome. Plus, nobody can hire you cause you’re running things.
Con: You’re responsible for EVERYTHING. It doesn’t matter who you hire to work under you. Everything that happens with your business is a reflection of you. Have you ever been to McDonald’s and see the crew mess up someone’s order? The first thing they do is ask for a manager. Why? Because that’s who we all see as responsible for keeping that ship tight! It’s the same principle. It’s an extreme amount of pressure.
Pro: You can create financial freedom for yourself. Successful business owners continue to find more ways to rack up more and more dough. They end up being able to travel more and own vacation homes. This is because when you have your own business you open door for even more business opportunities.
Con: Super time consuming. At least at the very beginning, you work twice as long as a regular nine to fiver. You have to wear many hats and full many rolls. I have had days where I worked 16 hours straight because there’s so much to do before getting things off the ground!
Pro: Creative freedom. This is one of my favorite things about owning my own business. I can be as creative as I want. I can come up with any type of marketing tactic. Which means my own personal spin can be added to every single thing I do. You can experiment with all sorts of ideas. You can market however you’d like.
Con: It’s risky. When starting your own business, you have to invest a lot of money, time, and effort into things. With business, comes failures and losses. You are risking to lose all you invest and you have to be willing to take that risk otherwise none of it will seem worth it to you. If you don’t invest ANYTHING into your business… your business will never leave the ground.
If you are passionate about your business, then these cons will not make you want to runaway from starting one. However, if you find yourself completely turned off from business, maybe it just isn’t for you. Honestly, these issues made me want to go further even more. I wanted to push through those hardships and I see them as challenges to make it to the next level.
